Mohnish Pabrai is the Managing Partner of the Pabrai Investment Funds. The objective of Pabrai Funds is to outperform the three major stock indices – as well as outperform more than 90% of mutual and hedge fund managers.

Mohnish was the CEO of Digital Disrupters in 1999 and liquidated the business in 2000. From 1990 to 1999, he was the Founder/CEO of TransTech, Inc. – an IT Consulting solutions company. In 1990, he founded TransTech as a boot-strap start-up in his home. TransTech was funded with $30,000 from Pabrai’s 401(k) account and about $70,000 in credit card debt. From those humble beginnings, the company grew to a $20 million plus revenue run-rate business with over 160 people. TransTech was recognized as an Inc. 500 company in 1996 and was sold to Kurt Salmon Associates (now Accenture Strategy) in 2000.

From 1986 to 1991, Mohnish was with Tellabs. He worked in R&D at Tellabs for over two years in their high-speed data networking group. Pabrai joined Tellabs’ fledgling international subsidiary in 1989 and worked on a wide range of assignments including joint ventures, international marketing, and sales. In 1986, Pabrai received a Bachelor’s Degree from Clemson University in Computer Engineering. He completed coursework towards a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, but did not finish his thesis due to the start-up of TransTech. Mohnish is the winner of the 1999 KPMG Illinois High Tech Entrepreneur award given by KPMG, The State of Illinois, and The City of Chicago. He is an active Member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO) and a charter member of the Southern California chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).

An ardent disciple of Warren Buffett, Mohnish makes his annual pilgrimage to Omaha and the Daily Journal Meeting in Los Angeles. He has a passion for focused value investing and the power of compounding based on the “Buffett Model.” He began to apply the model to his own portfolio in 1995 and started Pabrai Funds as a hobby in 1999. In September 2000, he made the funds his full-time vocation.

Mohnish strongly believes in a balanced life between work, family, and personal time. He loves reading, racquetball, biking on Irvine’s bike trails and playing duplicate bridge.
